The Bridgewater State University recently held their annual culinary “chopped” competition. Participants of this year’s competition were very shocked to see a surprise ingredient, which was python. Snake is definitely not an ingredient that is commonly eaten or cooked around the University or community thus you can just imagine how surprised the participants were when they seen the python.

This is the third year that Bridgewater State University held their “Chopped” competition. It is themed after the popular “Chopped” show that is featured on the Food Network. It is put on by the campus dining service provider, Sodexo. There were four teams of first year college students who participated in the event, which took place at the Bear’s Den retail location.

The Sodexo marketing co-ordinator, Monica Meyer, said “The look of shock was apparent on everyone’s faces. And “We watched as the judges quickly tweeted that they would be eating snake.”

The judges of the event included Vice-President for Student Affairs, Dr. Jason B Pina, Director Residence Life and Housing, Beth Moriarty, Associate Director Residence Life and Housing, Shelly Keniston.

The competition started off with Executive Chef Daniel DiBona from Sodexo showcasing knife skills, which was meant to ensure the safety of the competitors. In addition, the students were given safety gloves.

After the knife skills demonstration, the competition started out by the students getting told that they were to create an appetizer, a main course and a dessert. In addition, they would need to use the secret ingredient in two of the dishes. The winner delivered a meal that featured a garden salad with python bits appetizer, which also had a light mandarin orange balsamic dressing, then a penne that contained a Cajun python sausage and an Italian sauce. The winner also made two smoothies for dessert.

Did you know that one of the simplest ways for you to turn any average celebration into a unique gathering would be to integrate plasticware into your dining wares? This is an increasingly popular choice among veteran hosts across the country for a wide variety of reasons. Mostly, however, people are realizing that using plastic is an efficient way to have some lovely serving wares on hand that are both lightweight and easy to dispose of after the event.

If you use plasticware rather than real glass or china, you are also saving on labor costs since no one is going to have to be paid to wash dishes after the event is over. If you intended on doing this task yourself, then there is definitely a better chance that you will have some fun while at your celebration rather than fretting about the cleaning up process.

You should note that plastic does not mean the same tacky items you might see in plastic if you were to run out to your local party store. Rather, even the most high class stores now offer wares that are made out of plastic on account of the fact that the design is quite classy. In fact, people will not even realize that you’ve opted to use plastic until they actually sit down and pick up a plate.

Plus, using plastic is an innovative way for you to cut some costs at this event as well. Perhaps you were worried about the cost of all of your catering supplies since you already spent a large sum of money on all of the entertainment or on the food and drinks themselves. This is not going to be such a great concern if you can find wonderful plastic goods listed at a discount price.
